Members and volunteers find many opportunities to learn local history and share their skills and knowledge. The Society is always conducting research on the County’s old houses, cemeteries, coal mines, families, archeological resources, the Revolutionary, Civil War, WWI and local veterans.  We have on-going projects to collect and transcribe the written records of Chesterfield County for all to use. Including local school children, throughout the year we serve near 10,000 patrons to our sites, library, and our programs.

You can easily join us by using the secure PayPal button below or using the membership application available at our sites, events and online.

Why We Join and Serve as Volunteers....
History is facinnating!  You visit back in time to see what your ancestors were doing and how their every day activities effected their lives and families.  You can share your experiences with theirs.  It is remarkable to see how they struggled to make life uncomplicated and to offer a better way for their children.  Members and volunteers find many opportunities to learn local history and share their skills and knowledge. Researching the County’s old houses, cemeteries, coal mines, families, archeological resources, the Revolutionary, Civil War, WWI and local veterans is a quest many are doing. We have on-going projects to collect and transcribe the written records of Chesterfield County for all to use. Throughout the year we serve nearly 10,000 patrons to our sites, library, and our programs, including local school children.
Volunteers
Volunteers -the lifeline to our future...
  • What aspect of Chesterfield history interests you? (example: oral histories, map projects, research)
  • Do you have a project in mind? (example: African-American Chesterfield history or Civil War history)
  • Do you know what form that project will take, or do you need to brainstorm it with   someone?\
  • What spare time do you have?  A few hours?  A full day?
  • Special events only?
  • Are you ready to make a commitment, or do you prefer a more informal arrangement?
  • Do you enjoy working with the public?

CHSV Committees: Our Committees needs volunteers willing to do research. Some computer skills are necessary but not for every committee.  At the CHSV Library -  The following projects need volunteers: scanning the Library Photo collection. and transcribing "hand   written documents".  Does working in the CHSV library at the Old Trinity Church appeal   to you? (1)-Research & Compile histories on each of the County's High Schools, (2)- Update list of all African-American resources in the Society's library collection, (3)-Scan/digitize the Society's Picture Collection, (4)-Update the Index of The Messenger, the Society's newsletter, (5)-Design a new brochure for the Society, (6) -Oral History Project - interview elderly County residents to capture their memories of the early 1900 and (7)-Research & Compile an archival record of the history of Chesterfield businesses and industries
