Johnny Reb and Billy Yank: This
program will address the hardship of the commomn soldier during the
Civil War. Students will learn about the food the soldiers ate, how
they dealt with boredom, what motivated the soldiers to fight and
understand the causes of the war. Students will gain an
understanding on how the soldiers trained and equipment they carried

- From Fossisl Fuel to Electicity:
Did you know that Midlothian was the site of the first
commercial coal mines in North America? Take a guided tour and
discover what coal mining was all about. Explore the inpact
this community had on the region. This activity addresses
geology and cola mining. Program meets in the amphitheater

Life on the Plantation:
Take a tour of Magnolia Grange and experience what
19th century was like on a plantation. Tour the herb garden and learn
about the importance of herbs for flavor, medicine, fragrance and pest
control. Make a fragrant sachet to take home and learn to play period

1892 Historic Jail is opened for tours. The adjacent Museum houses exhibits
pertaining to the history of Chesterfield County. Rotating exhibits are
themed along historical events that affected county residents. Please take
a tour of the Museum. Admission is free and $2 donations are accepted.
