About The Chesterfield Historical Society
Mission
The Chesterfield Historical Society of Virginia, established on September 23, 1981, serves as the center for Chesterfield County history. Our mission is to collect, preserve, interpret, and promote the
county's unique past for the education and enjoyment of present and future generations.
Vision
Our vision is to be the premier resource for all Chesterfield County citizens and visitors regarding
local history. We, in partnership with the County of Chesterfield, will provide quality programs, exhibits, and information to support educational goals.
Citizens will embrace and value the history of Chesterfield and will be
knowledgeable about the historic contributions of people, places, and events that shaped our community. We want all Americans to know that the basic principles, including Freedom of Enterprise, started here with our first settlers and were passed on
from state to state, community to community, across our nation.
It is also our vision that schoolchildren know as much about Bermuda Hundred, the second continuous English settlement in America, which was here in Chesterfield,
as they already know about the first English settlement, Jamestown.
Guiding Principles
The Society joins with the County of Chesterfield local government in its commitment to quality service. We
are shareholders in our progress and serve as stewards for those values held dear: fairness, integrity, diversity, teamwork, lifelong learning, appreciation of history and culture, fiscal accountability and steadfastness in long-range commitments.
